Taliban on Friday warned that there will be a “major war” and “dangerous escalation” if US troops don’t withdraw by May this year – as per the schedule decided under the Doha agreement.

The Taliban issued the warning on their website Al Emarah and titled it: “What if withdrawal date of invaders is extended”.

“If the Doha agreement is abrogated, it will lead to a major war, the responsibility of which shall fall squarely on the shoulders of America,” Taliban warned.

It also made reference to the recent report of the US Congress’ Afghanistan Study Group which has recommended that the Joseph Biden administration extend troop withdrawal date from Afghanistan.

“If, God forbid, the Doha agreement is breached, it will lead to a dangerous escalation for which the opposing side will be responsible,” said the group.

As per the Doha agreement between the US government and the Taliban, the US troops would completely withdraw from Afghanistan in May this year.

The war in Afghanistan, which began in October 2001, is the longest war in US history and has cost it $2 trillion.

The previous US administration of Donald Trump had agreed to end the war by signing an agreement with the Taliban in Qatar capital Doha last year.

Taliban asked the new US administration that it “must not treat the Doha agreement in an emotional manner and must end further investments in the continuation of war, warlords and corrupt individuals”.
