The patients and attendants at OPD of Kashmir premier healthcare institute of state, Sher-e-Kashmir Institution of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), are suffering as toilet facilities have been closed since last two weeks.

Patients and attendants while talking to a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that washrooms inside OPD have been closed from last two weeks and not a single washroom is open there to use due to which patients and attendants are suffering.

“We don’t have any other option other than to urinate in the open as we have to be with patients and even patients suffer as washrooms are closed,” said an attendant at the SKIMS.

“Male attendants are somehow managing it but where would a female attendant or female patient go in such circumstances,” he said.

A female attendant said: “There is a huge rush of patients and attendants in OPD but washrooms are closed which causes inconvenience.”

She said that authorities should have made alternative arrangements for it before closing down the washrooms there.

“Patients and attendants requested authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and make washrooms functional there so that patients won’t suffer anymore,” she said.

Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent SKIMS Dr Farooq Jan told KNO that one facility is functional there while two more are being repaired.

He added that one more such facility is coming there and presently it is at tendering stage. (KNO)
