Lawyers in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district staged a sit-in in the premises of District Court demanding return of bodies killed in Hyderpora area of Srinagar.

At least four persons were killed in Hyderpora Srinagar gunfight. Police said that the slain were militants and their associates, however, families of three persons are contesting the police claim saying they were innocent and had nothing to do with militancy.

Reports said that in a bid to press for demand of return the bodies to families, Anantnag Bar Association staged peaceful sit-in. The lawyers also demanded a netural probe into the Hyderpora gunfight.

Regarding the protest, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also retweeted a photograph of Advocate Amreen carrying a placard seeking justice for her brother Imran Qayoom.

The retweet of Mehbooba Mufti read: “Advocate Amreen, sister of Imran Quyoom joined the lawyers in Anantnag protesting to demand justice to victim families of Hyderpora. Imran, her brother was killed on 25 July, 2021 in Kulgam during a gunfight. The forces said he was a militant, a claim denied by the family.” (KNT)
