The government forces on Thursday arrested an active militant of Jaish-e-Muhammad from Patushahi area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession, official handout reads.

“Based on credible information, regarding movement of militants from Sopore to Bandipora, a joint special checkpoint was established by Bandipora Police along with security forces at Patushahi Bandipora. During checking, one active militant identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan, son of Fayaz Ahmad Khan of Panzigam Bandipora was arrested,” police spokesman said in a statement issued to a local news agency, Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. As per police records, he was linked with JeM.

“Preliminary enquiry reveals that the arrested militant had joined militant ranks recently and was tasked to carry out subversive activities in Sopore and Bandipora towns. It is pertinent to mention here that on 26/01/2021, the militant managed to escape from a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Adipora area of Sopore while taking advantage of darkness,” police said.

Accordingly, police said that a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated.(KNO)
