On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir RTI Movement appealed to Chief Engineer Public Works Department (R-B) Kashmir and Deputy Commissioner Budgam for repairing a small road stretch in Jabbad village of Surasray block in Budgam district as the road has been damaged during 2014 flash floods and has not been repaired to date.

“Last year an ailing lady from Zilsidara near Jabbad village died when she could not be taken to hospital as the road was blocked in this village. The road is again in shambles and needs immediate repairs,” said Raja Muzaffar Bhat, chairman of RTI Movement that constitutes a group of volunteers working for information transparency.

He added: “It is really unfortunate that even after six years the road continues to be bad as there was massive soil erosion in the area post-2014 floods. For the last six years, the locals have been urging District Administration Budgam to repair the road but they are least bothered. I again request DC Budgam and Chief Engineer PWD Kashmir to address this burning issue as it will cause lots of problems for locals in the coming winter as traffic movement will get completely restricted in the area.”

Chief Engineer PWD (R-B), Showkat Jeelani denied having any information about the issue and told The Kashmir Walla, “Due to the ongoing elections, I will not be able to give you any information at the moment but I will look into the matter.”
