Canada listed Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and twelve other militant outfits, operating in different countries, as “terrorist entities” on Wednesday on its Criminal Code list.
HM, a militant outfit operating in Kashmir, was listed alongside Atomwaffen Division, The Base, the “Russian Imperial Movement,” five Islamic State (IS) affiliates, three Al-Qaeda affiliates and the Proud Boys.
In a press release, the Government of Canada said, “The Criminal Code listing regime is an important tool for countering terrorism in Canada and globally, and is part of that commitment.”
The government “has placed thirteen new groups on the Criminal Code list of terrorist entities, including four ideologically motivated violent extremist groups: Atomwaffen Division, the Base, the Proud Boys and Russian Imperial Movement.”
Other than HM, other outfits were: Jama’at Nusrat Al-Islam Wal-Muslimin, Front de Libération du Macina, Ansar Dine, Islamic State West Africa Province, Islamic State in the Greater Sahara, Islamic State in Libya, Islamic State East Asia, and Islamic State – Bangladesh.
