Bhartiya Janata Party has withdrawn support to Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu.
BJP said that the decision has been taken after a formal meeting in Jammu where it was unanimously decided to withdraw the support to Srinagar Mayor and even support the ‘independent’ group that will bring a ‘no-confidence motion against the Mayor.
This was disclosed by party Councilor Nazir Gilkar and Election In Charge Asif Masoodi at a press conference here in Kashmir capital Srinagar on Monday.
Nazir Gilkar as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust while hitting the Mayor left, right and centre said that the incumbent Mayor has been resorting to ‘corruption’ and ‘malpractices and he needs to be taken to task. He said the allegations leveled by them have been proven correct by Mayor himself when he stated that he macadamized the two constituencies ‘Zadibal’ and ‘Hazratbal’ Srinagar only.
“We are not against anyone and don’t want to deprive people of basic facilities but our question is why the Mayor spent heft amounts on interior roads of two particular constituencies and ignored the vital roads used by the people,” Gilkar questioned.
Nazir Ahmed Gilkar said that there have been various scams in Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Mayor is the ‘kingpin’ of those scams.
He rubbished the allegations of Mayor that the National Conference is hand in glove with the BJP to oust him. He said that it was the Mayor who supported Deputy Mayor Parvaiz Qadri against the BJP candidate for Deputy Mayorship.
“We have nothing to do with the National Conference and that party is not supporting us,” he said.
BJP added that it is intending to approach to Anti-Corruption Bureau and Crime Branch against the ‘malpractices’ of Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu. (KNT)
