A fierce gunfight is underway in Shalgul forest in Bejbhera of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Official sources told GNS that there was some confusion regarding the killing of militants.

However, the official said that four militants are likely to be trapped inside the encounter site.

Kashmir Zone police had tweeted that four unidentified militants were killed in an ‘encounter’ at Shalgul, Bijbehara, however, the police deleted the tweet

The gunfight is still going on and might take some time as it is a deep forest.

Earlier, reports said that a joint team of Police and Army’s 3RR launched a cordon and search operation in Shalgul forest.

As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.(GNS)
