Srinagar: The Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Basant Rath, who resigned from the services on Saturday, is all set to join the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), The Kashmir Walla can confirm.

Talking with The Kashmir Walla, Rath said that once his resignation will be accepted, “I will join the BJP.”

Earlier, the Wire had reported quoting unidentified sources in the government that the Rath’s resignation is unlikely to be accepted since he is facing a probe by the Union Home Ministry for “gross instances of misconduct”.

A native of Pipli village in Puri district of Odisha, the IPS officer has studied sociology at the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi.

In the resignation letter that Rath shared on Twitter, he wrote: “I wish to resign from the Indian Police Service in order to be able to participate in electoral politics. Please consider this letter as my request for resignation/voluntary retirement and process it accordingly.”
