Srinagar: A seized vehicle along with 50 cft illegal timber has allegedly gone missing from Range Office Achabal mysteriously.

Reports said foresters Bashir Ahmad Shah and Farooq Ahmad Khan seized a tempo traveller carrying 50 cft illegal timber from Har Shangus, part of Anantnag Forest Division. The timber along with vehicle was taken to Range Office Achabal after completion of formalities.

However, next day the vehicle alongwith the seized timber had gone missing from the Range Office.

Range Officer Achabal didn’t respond to calls despite repeated attempts. However, DFO Anantnag, who has suspended five employees in the case, said, “If any of our employee is found in the nexus, he will be dealt according to law. The vehicle didn’t have the number. But we are trying to ascertain the details from the CCTV footage.”

Forest Non-Gazetted Employees Union office bearers said that anybody involved in the case must be punished. “Commissioner Secretary Forests, CCF Kashmir and DFO Anantnag must take appropriate action against those involved in the case. How did timber and vehicle go missing from the Range Office,” they asked. (KNS)
