Revenue official suspended over graft charges in Rajouri

Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Saturday put a revenue official (Patwari) under suspension after latter’s telephonic conversation, discussing monetary consideration for some official work went viral on social media.

In the telephonic conversation Halqa Gambhir Mughlan Patwari, Abdul Ghafoor can be heard discussing the monetary consideration for attestation of a mutation deed. What can be inferred from the conversation is that the caller could have met him earlier, while this time around recorded the conversation on his mobile phone.

Sources privy to the development divulged that the conversation is few months old which according to them got leaked out very recently. The act of the official has been seen as a brazen violation of service rules under Jammu and Kashmir Classification, Control and Appeal Rules, 1956 they said.

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri while taking a serious note of the act has ordered for the suspension of the Patwari while in the meantime attached him to the office of Tehsildar Rajouri, sources said.

An enquiry led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri and Tehsildar Manjakote has also been initiated against the errant official, given a week to submit its report.

Meanwhile District Vigilance Officer Rajouri Sher Singh said that the veracity of the voice call shall be checked into and the enquiry accordingly taken to its logical conclusion. (GNS)
