Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, in a statement released on his online mouthpiece, urged Shia Muslims to join Sunni congregational prayers, adding that amiability and fraternity are very important in Hajj, the Islamic pilgrimage.

The message read, “In various narrations issued by the Imams (greetings be upon them), it has been stressed that you should perform daily prayers in Masjid al-Haraam and Masjid al-Nabi with non-Shias and that you should participate in their daily prayers and perform it together…This means amiability among Muslim brothers.”

Mr. Khamenei also advised that performing public prayers in caravans, hotels and other places is not the correct policy or method. People should join others and public prayers should only be performed with other Muslims in Masjid al-Haram and in the orderly lines of Masjid al-Nabi.

“The formation of the Islamic Ummah through the great gatherings of Muslims is one of the obligations that exist in Hajj”, he added.
