After hailstorm spoils crops in Pulwama, admin to inspect situation tomm

Srinagar: Following heavy hailstorm in parts of Pulwama and Budgam areas, resulted in massive destructions to crops and apple orchards, Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama Dr. Syed Abid Rashid Shah said that authorities will send a team for inspection and assured locals for proper compensation.

Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Mr. Shah wrote, “#Hailstorm Men & machinery on the ground for restoration of affected roads and electricity. All teams deployed for restoration. Fighting nature’s fury. Damage assessment of horticulture/agriculture crops will start tmrw first thing.”

The hailstorm wreaked havoc in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday afternoon, causing massive damage to crops, walnut, cherry, apricot, and apples.

Locals told that the orchards spread over thousands of Kanals of land in Pulwama and Tral villages have suffered massive damage due to the hailstorm.

Notably, the frequent hailstorm in the last two weeks has led to a huge loss to the fruit growers, farmers and others in the Valley.
