Congress thrust gun upon peace loving Kashmiris, says Sajad Lone

Srinagar: Chairman People’s Conference Sajad Ghani Lone on Tuesday said that congress thrust gun upon peace loving Kashmiris due to mass rigging during their rule in the past 50-55 years.

Addressing a press conference here, Lone lashed out at Congress and accused them of not being able to touch the heart of Kashmiris.

He was flanked by newly elected Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu and Irfan Reza Ansari, younger brother of People’s Democratic Party rebel leader Imran Reza Ansari.

“Since 1947 Congress ruled for 50-55 years,” said Lone. “Why has not any Congress leader been able to touch hearts of Kashmiris? Why only Atal Bihari Vajpaee’s name comes up? Congress should introspect, rather than lifting their fingers on everybody,” Lone replied to a question on the accountability of elections.

Lashing out at Congress for accusing him of being communal, the lawmaker from Handwara said that there was no point of being communal during an election that was about lanes and drains. “It was an election of lanes, drainage and community centers, yet Congress gave it the name of communalism,” he added. “Congress literally thrust gun upon a peace loving community due to rigging in elections during their tenure.”

“I am not a chocolate boy, have witnessed interrogation when these leaders were sitting in Delhi, they cannot call everybody communal. What non sense is this?” he asked.

Lone congratulated Mattu and Irfan Ansari, who campaigned during the elections, for playing a great role in winning the Municipal Polls as well the Mayorship.

On being asked whether a new front was being formed, Lone replied that it was a political party and not a political front. He also questioned the boycott of two main parties National Conference and People’s Democratic Party. “Don’t know from where candidates of those parties who had called for a boycott sprung up,” Lone questioned, raising fingers over proxy candidates.

Having a Mayor, supported by his party, Lone said that his wish is to make Srinagar a world class city. “We have a wish that Srinagar becomes a world class city,” Lone said.
