Article 35 A hearing: South Kashmir lawyers hit roads

The Bar Association of  Anantnag  on Monday held a protest march in Anantnag township against efforts to abrogate article 35 A.

Holding placards that read “Save Article 35 A, save our identity,”  the protest march led by Anantnag Bar president Fayaz Ahmad Saudagar was carried out from court complex and culminated at Town’s Lal chowk area, “Scores of lawyers took part in the protest march and said that they are committed to safeguard article 35A.

The supreme court of India is set to hear PILs filed against the article on August 5 and 6.

Article 35A of the Indian Constitution is an article that empowers the Jammu and Kashmir state’s legislature to define “permanent residents” of the state and provide special rights and privileges to those permanent residents.
