Allowing Rahul Gandhi and NSUI in Kashmir University is pathetic: KUSU
"NSUI (a congress backed student body) put up posters in the campus and as always the administration pretended deaf and dumb about it."
Srinagar, Kashmir: The banned Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) has “vehemently opposed and condemned the visit of Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi” to the Kashmir University. Gandhi is on a two day visit to Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, the group says that the Kashmir university students will hold protests against Gandhi’s visit in the university as the ban on KUSU remains in place by the very same authority that has brought him to the campus. “Once again the university authorities have presented the institution on a platter for the Indian polity to further their imperialist agenda. Roping in big-wigs of Indian corporatocracy for an apparently economic agenda is nothing but a façade aimed at stamping Indian hegemony in the varsity,” it said.
Adding that considering the disputed nature of Kashmir, any kind of investment by Indian business community seems beyond prudence. “Also economic offerings cannot satiate the political aspirations of Kashmiris in general and Kashmiri youth in particular. Visit of Indian industrialists should be of academic nature and not political and propagandist,” KUSU statement, which came after a meeting was held today by them, adds.
The banned union also added that the Vice Chancellor of the varsity, Prof. Talat Ahmad has repeatedly and hypocritically asserted that no politics will be allowed on campus. “However, time and again Indian political parties have been allowed to carry out their activities at the university. Days before the scheduled visit of Rahul Gandhi, NSUI (a congress backed student body) put up posters in the campus and as always the administration pretended deaf and dumb about it. It is infact with the active support of the university authorities that NSUI and other such groups have carried out their activities at the varsity while the premier students union, KUSU remains banned.”
…economic offerings cannot satiate the political aspirations of Kashmiris in general and Kashmiri youth in particular. Visit of Indian industrialists should be of academic nature and not political and propagandist.
The KUSU calls the decision to allow Rahul Gandhi and NSUI in the campus while the ban of KUSU continues as “absolutely pathetic and smacks of obnoxious prejudice” . It says only the students belonging to kith and kin of the collaborator (with India) and those fitting the bill have been selected by university administration and coached what to speak and what not to in the interaction with Rahul Gandhi.
As reported by the local media also, KUSU confirms that the questions that the students are supposed to ask Gandhi have been already scripted and allotted to them. “Even the sequence of questions has been pre-decided., “Our country” instead of “India” and not to mention Kashmir issue has been specifically stressed upon these handpicked students, among several other diktats,” KUSU confirmed the local media reports which came today.
